Practice

We are a small architectural firm, of long standing, based in a former church converted by this practice.

We undertake a variety of work, from residential, commercial, barn conversion and church work. Much of this is carried out for individual clients, small corporate bodies and PCC’s

We try to understand the client’s individual requirements and aspirations so that these can be reflected within the design. We also have a good working relationship with the local planning and building control departments, which allows us to advise and guide clients.

Residential work ranges from internal alterations and small extensions through to individual new houses. We design small groups of houses- for builder developer clients and housing development layouts for larger schemes. Often a traditional appearance is required to fit in with the setting and character of the area but occasionally a clearly modern approach is needed to differentiate new from old.

Within the practice we have a good understanding of traditional building techniques and forms of construction, which is particularly important when dealing with older buildings and with barn conversions.

We are used to the concept of soft materials, breathability and use of various types of lime mortar. We try to follow the principles set out by The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings ( SPAB ).

The practice also does a variety of church work, including carrying out quinquennial inspections, advising on repairs and arranging and running building contracts. We have carried out re-orderings, provision of basic facilities, and church extensions - when this is the most appropriate solution.
